It all began over a half a century ago in 1958 when my grandfather, John F. Kelly, started John's Appliance and Repair located in Jersey City. Back then the times were tough and he had to work long hours to help grow his business as well as provide for his family.
At the age of eight years old my father, Robert Kelly Sr., started helping out around the repair shop. Soon enough there was nothing he couldn't repair and eventually, he began going out on service calls for the family appliance repair business. It wasn't long before he met my mother, the two married, and relocated to Middletown, New Jersey to start a family & business of their own.
In 1970 my father opened Kelly's Refrigeration & Appliances. Following in my father's footsteps I, too, found myself sparked with an interest in the appliance field at an early age. I remember sitting at the kitchen table as my father was rebuilding timers for GE washers. It was a tricky task as you had to hold them upside down to do all the work, but I've always loved a good challenge and it wasn't long before I mastered it. From tinkering with timers I then began riding along on my father's service calls and it was amazing to witness not only how talented he was at his craft but also how much he was adored by his customers.
After graduating Middletown High School I went on to attend vocational school for heating, refrigeration, & air conditioning where I received straight A's in all courses of study. Once I completed my vocational training I wanted to try something new, so I enrolled in the U.S. Marine Corp where I served actively from 1982-1986. During my stint in the marines, I also furthered my education in the refrigeration field. Upon completion, I returned home to work for the family appliance repair business before eventually taking over the reins once my father retired. Registering Jersey Appliance Inc. as a trade name, I then moved our offices to a more central location to better serve all of our areas of repair coverage. We currently service five counties and are still growing. It is my goal to eventually have Jersey Appliance Inc. cover the entire state of New Jersey as your number one appliance service company.
